Ask the Dust

(USA/Germany/South Africa, 2005, 117 minutes)

In 1930s Los Angeles, a struggling, penniless writer attempting the Great American Novel becomes fascinated by the Mexican waitress working at the diner down the road. Good-looking but rather pointless addition to the impossible-romance-period-melodrama canon, unable to shake the story’s literary origin despite good technical credits and period feel.
