THE TEMPEST

USA/India
2010
109 minutes

The noble Prospera, exiled to a parched island from her dukedom in Milan because of the greed of her own brother, takes the opportunity of his passing by on a ship to exact her magical revenge on him. Interesting reimagining of Shakespeare's classic play that turns Prospero into a woman to intriguing but somewhat underwhelming effect; the abridging of the text hinders more than it helps, but the dazzling, outlandish visuals and strong performances maintain interest.
